Psychology Collecions Policies
Clientele:
The Psychology collection serves the needs of undergraduates in the Psychology department, masters students in School Psychology, and faculty in support of instruction.
There are approximately 300 undergraduate majors and 60-100 minors; the usual complement of graduate students is 20-25. The 1998-99 Undergraduate Catalog lists 36 PSY courses; the 1997-98 Graduate Catalog lists 18 graduate courses. Emphases in the department include but are not limited to neuroscience, senses and perception, developmental psychology, behavioral psychology and school psychology. There are about 14 faculty members directly involved in teaching psychology.

Existing Collections:
Plattsburgh's Psychology collection contains mainly current materials in English. The majority of materials are from the U.S., with some global materials, mostly European.
Current Collecting:
Developing fields of interest include forensic/criminal psychology, evolutionary psychology, and various areas of applied psychology. There is declining interest in psychoanalysis and Freudian psychology. Textbooks are not collected. Applied psychology is preferred over experimental.

Materials in print (including books with accompanying media) and media formats are collected. Cloth is preferred over paper. Electronic resources are considered.
