Theatre Collections Policies

Clientele:

The Theatre collection serves the curriculum, undergraduate research and extra-curricular productions particularly in the areas of acting, directing, production design, make-up and costuming, and drama history, criticism, and technique. According to faculty, the number of majors has remained consistent. There are 4 faculty members directly involved in teaching theater, and one who teaches dance/movement courses. The following areas are also related to the collection: music, communications and literature.

Existing Collections:

Plattsburgh's Theatre collection contains both current and older materials in English. The majority of materials are U.S.-oriented, with a minor global focus.  Strengths of the collection include new and historical collections in stage setting and scenery, costume design, stage lighting, and production and direction, as well as acting.

Current Collecting:

Developing fields of interest include materials to support the addition of a dance/movement program, and materials to support a new requirement that majors write a significant research paper. Criticism, interpretation and theory should be strengthened for this purpose.  We are experiencing a growth in the improvisation collection and award-winning plays and musicals (Tony, Drama Desk, Pulitzer, Nobel).
