Feinberg Library Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Frequently Asked Questions
What is ILLiad?
ILLiad
is our automated Information Delivery Services system. It is
state-of-the-art request management software. ILLiad automates routine
loan functions to provide faster service in a paper-free environment.
What can I borrow through Interlibrary Loan?
Our Interlibrary Loan office will request items not owned by Feinberg Library. Note: items in the following categories may be difficult to borrow, and might take longer to fill or be filled with restrictions (such as a shorter loan period or in-library use only):
- Reference books
- Rare books and manuscripts
- Very recently-published books
- Entire volumes of journals
- Multi-volume sets
- Audio-visual materials (Videos, DVD's, microforms, etc)
- Professional association and conference papers
- Genealogical materials
- Some dissertations and master's theses (availability is unpredictable)
If an item is loaned to another patron, can I order it through Interlibrary Loan?
Yes. If an item is loaned for an extended period of time, it can be requested through ILL.
How long will it take before I receive my Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary
loan requests usually take a minimum of three days, depending on the availability and method of shipment. Internet technologies make it
possible for customers to receive copied materials in as little as
twenty-four hours. Completion of the "needed by" and "cancel after" fields is extremely important.
How will I receive my materials?
Faculty: Articles delivered in electronic format to ILL and are forwarded to your WebMail or ILLiad account. Books are forwarded to campus addresses through interoffice mail or, if special arrangements have been made, can be held at the 2nd-level Service Desk.
Students: We will notify you of availability through your WebMail account. Articles delivered in electronic format to ILL are forwarded to your WebMail or ILLiad account. Books can be picked up at Feinberg Library's 2nd-level Service Desk with valid Plattsburgh identification. Books should be returned to 2nd-level Service Desk.
- WebMail is the official email of
Plattsburgh State. We recommended using Webmail to reduce technical issues with ILLiad requests.
- Due dates are set by the lending library, and the lending library may recall materials at any time. It is VITAL that books be returned on time as it may have a bearing on whether that library lends to us in the future.
What copy services do you provide?
Our Document Delivery staff will photocopy any non-circulating library materials for faculty, staff and distance learners.
Are there fees?
No - ILL is a free service. However, your library account will incur fines of 25 cents per day/per item for overdue materials. Additional charges incurred through the lending library are also the responsibility of the patron and are charged to personal accounts.
Is there a maximum number of requests I can submit?
No. However, if you are submitting more than five requests, we ask that you rank the order of need to help expedite the requests.Contact Information
