Feinberg Library Series Offers Poetry, Fiction Readings

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2012) — Word Thursdays is a new Feinberg Library series in which local writers will offer readings of their published works and lead conversations about poetry and fiction. 

All events are open to the public and will take place in the Feinberg Library Reading Room beginning at 5 p.m. with the exception of the Nov. 29 event, which begins at 7 p.m. Audience members will be invited to read from their own works in an open mic session at each event. Refreshments will be served.

Poetry

Nov. 1

Readings by SUNY Plattsburgh students from works written while in the United Kingdom and subsequently published in March 2012.

Short Stories

Nov. 8

Mark Holden, author and recipient of the Lamar York Prize for nonfiction from The Chattahoochee Review and the Kurt Vonnegut Fiction Prize from The North American Review, and Elizabeth Cohen, author and poet, will read from their works.

Poetry and Fiction

Nov. 15

Dr. Thomas Braga, poet and retired professor of literature, and Dr. Carol Lipszyc, author, poet and assistant professor of English, and Dr. Jose Torres-Padilla, author, essayist and professor of English read from their works.

Nov. 29

Allen Ginsberg’s “Howl.” Reading from the Beat Poet’s most famous work.
