Theater Instructor Teams Up with Peru Public Library to Present Radio Theater!
08:10am EDT, 15 Aug 2013
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Aug. 15, 2013) – A SUNY Plattsburgh theater instructor and the Peru Free Library are presenting an eight-week radio drama program, starting 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, and running at the same time every Monday after that through October.
Radio Theater! is funded by Lifetime Arts, a non-profit organization that provides arts programs to improve the quality of life for older adults. Open to all ages, the program is designed to engage individuals – particularly retirement-age adults – who want to explore the arts in a safe and supportive environment.
Created by Karen Hildebrand, Radio Theater! will have participants reading through a variety of radio plays and selecting one to rehearse and perform. Rehearsals will culminate in a performance and an audio recording of the radio drama.
Those wishing to participate do not need to have any prior experience with radio drama. They will learn everything they need to know during the workshop sessions.
In addition to actors, the program needs people who are interested in creating sound effects.
Those interested in signing up for the workshop should call the Peru Free Library at 518-643-8618 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
In addition to teaching Intro to Acting and Playwriting at SUNY Plattsburgh, Hildebrand has taught Intro to Theater Arts, public speaking and English composition. She also has created and taught a children’s theater course and was director for the college’s production of “Musical Comedy Murders of 1940.”
She has further experience creating and teaching youth theater courses through the North Country Council for the Arts and creating internships for students in theatrical directing, technical theater and public relations.
She is the host for “Hildy, Music I Like,” a radio show on WRUV that features jazz, funk and world music.
