03:40pm EST, 7 Feb 2014
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Feb. 7, 2014) — SUNY Plattsburgh’s Center for Womyn’s Concerns will host Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues,” 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at Krinovitz Recital Hall in Hawkins Hall.
Admission is $3 for students and $5 for faculty, staff and the public. Tickets will be sold at the Angell College Center’s information desk. All proceeds will be donated to Planned Parenthood of the North Country in Plattsburgh.
The award-winning play is based on interviews of more than 200 women and examines female issues, empowerment and sexuality. Celebrated and performed globally, “The Vagina Monologues” offers a voice to female topics rarely discussed and often shunned.
“It is such a powerful show because it brings women of all different backgrounds together,” said Elizabeth Rafferty, “Monologues” director.
The performance marks the 12th anniversary of the play, which aims to end violence against women through changing lives, laws, political stances, individual minds and hearts.
“It teaches people of the atrocities women face everywhere,” Rafferty said.
This performance is sponsored by V-Day, Eve Ensler’s non-profit organization that strives to end violence against women and girls. The organization promotes anti-violence events such as “The Vagina Monologues” in order to educate the public of their mission.
