McGill University Professor to Deliver Distinguished Fulbright Chair in Quebec Studies Address

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 10, 2014) — Dr. Jarrett Rudy, associate professor at McGill University, will deliver the Distinguished Fulbright Chair in Quebec Studies Address Tuesday, April 22, beginning at 2 p.m. in the Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall, SUNY Plattsburgh.

A keynote campus event convened by the Institute on Quebec Studies, the Distinguished Fulbright Chair in Quebec Studies Address recognizes and features individuals who have made a remarkable contribution to Quebec public life. 

Rudy’s presentation, “The Standardization of Time in the Quebec-New York Border Region, 1883-1974,” will be followed by a reception at the Institute on Quebec Studies, 133 Court St.

Rudy is an associate professor in the Department of History and Classical Studies at McGill University, where he teaches Quebec and Canadian history. He is the author of “The Freedom to Smoke: Tobacco Consumption and Identity,” as well as several articles in the Journal of the Canadian Historical Association, Histoire Sociale/Social History, Revue d’histoire de l’Amérique française, Globe: Revue international d’études québécoise and the Canadian Historical Review. He also co-edited “Quebec Questions: Quebec Studies in the Twenty-First Century.”

Rudy is a member of the Montreal History Group and is currently writing a history of time-telling in 19th- and 20th-century Quebec. He holds a master’s degree in history from the University of Ottawa and a Ph.D. in history from McGill University.
