Autism Spectrum Disorders Center Spring Conference Looks at Skills for Adult Life

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (May 10, 2017) — The North Country Regional Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders will host its spring conference, “Programming for Adolescents and Young Adults with Autism: Targeting Skills for Adult Life in the Community,” Friday, June 9 at the West Side Ballroom, 253 New York Road, Plattsburgh, with registration starting at 8 a.m.

The half-day presentation will provide an overview of effective transition planning for any age across multiple life situations — work, safety, social competence, leisure, sexuality, behavior and quality of life, to name a few — and the impact of applied behavior analysis in achieving increasingly more significant and positive outcomes.

Strategies for student/client assessment, the provision of effective intervention, and individualized program development will be reviewed.

Dr. Peter Gerhardt, executive director of the EPIC School in Paramus, N.J., will be guest speaker  He has more than 35 years of experience utilizing the principles of applied behavior analysis in support of adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorders in educational, employment, residential and community-based settings.
