TAC and SBDC Open House Feb. 1

12:00am EST, 15 Jan 2008

PLATTSBURGH, NY (January 15, 2008) - New York Assembly Women Janet Duprey and Teresa Sayward, State Senator Betty O'C. Little, Plattsburgh Mayor Donald Kasprzak and SUNY Plattsburgh President John Ettling are scheduled to appear at an open house for the new offices of the North Country Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Technical Assistance Center (TAC). Jessica Bassett, the local liaison for the Governor's Office of Regional Affairs, will also be in attendance.

The open house will be held Friday, Feb. 1, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the new offices at 194 U.S. Oval in Plattsburgh. The program starts at 4 p.m. with remarks from Little and Ettling and the unveiling of a new sign.

Both centers are affiliates of SUNY Plattsburgh and their new location on the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base is designed to make their staff and services more accessible to current and potential clients as well as the general public.

The SBDC at SUNY Plattsburgh is part of a statewide network of business assistance centers supported by the State University of New York and the Small Business Administration and accredited by the Association of Small Business Centers. The center is charged with assisting North Country entrepreneurs, small businesses, and industries through advising, training, and research.

TAC is the economic development outreach arm of SUNY Plattsburgh. It provides technical assistance to public and private sector organizations with the goal of enhancing economic development across the 16 counties of northern New York. Its mission is to increase the region's capacity to stimulate economic growth through technical assistance, applied research and information services. It leverages the resources of the college and its allies and partners, utilizing expert faculty and staff, libraries, laboratories and other resources to focus on economic development at the local level.

In addition, TAC oversees the Adirondack-Champlain Community Broadband Network, also known as CBN Connect. This is a public-private community partnership that seeks to create a broadband, fiber optic infrastructure, providing abundant bandwidth to meet the telecommunications needs of public and private users in Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties.
