SUNY Plattsburgh Music Department Presents 'Beef Jerky and Premium Talc'
08:46am EST, 20 Feb 2014
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Feb. 20, 2014) — The SUNY Plattsburgh Music Department will present clarinetist Janine Scherline in a faculty recital March 2 at 2 p.m. in the Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall.
Scherline will be joined by her spouse, saxophonist Todd W. Pray, accompanied by pianist Jun Matsuo. The program, “Beef Jerky and Premium Talc,” features works by Greg Wanamaker, Janne Ikonen, Pedro Iturralde, Claude Debussy, Paul Read and Daniel Coe. The title of the program refers to the piece of the same name by Coe, written for two players, and is described as “a musical characterization done in a cartoon-like manner.”
The highlights include the unique combination of clarinet and saxophone not typically found together in chamber settings, Scherline said. The world premier of “Fuente de la Passion” was written for her and is now being arranged for other combinations of instruments.
“(It is an) opportunity for Todd and I to perform together as husband and wife,” she said. “Essentially, the concert provides an opportunity for the three of us to play together and to put together an enjoyable array of music that is both charming and fun.”
The concert is free and open to the public.
