GEO Expo to Bring the Global Experience to Plattsburgh
02:08pm EST, 24 Feb 2014
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Feb. 24, 2014) — The inaugural GEO Expo will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 27 in the Warren Ballrooms of SUNY Plattsburgh’s Angell College Center.
Hosted by the college’s Global Education Office, the event will be the biggest cultural event on campus this semester. It will feature food, drinks, music and presentations from countries around the world, displaying the cultural spirit of SUNY Plattsburgh.
"The GEO Expo is an event that celebrates the geographic diversity of our college community and introduces us to unfamiliar customs, food, languages and ideas," said Jackie Girard Vogl, assistant vice president for global education. "I'm sure this event will be very interesting, entertaining and educational. And I hope that all of the students who have devoted so much time and effort to making this event a success will be rewarded by seeing lots of people participate."
The Global Education Office is known for hosting campus-favorite events like the annual Night of Nations, which gathers in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium every fall semester, and last semester’s the Around the World event, which highlighted study abroad opportunities. The GEO Expo plans to combine the best of both events in one activity-packed afternoon.
The event will divide the Warren Ballrooms into different areas of the world, each with presentations from international students; students who have studied abroad; and cultural clubs on campus. Employment, internships and other international opportunities will be showcased by the GEO staff.
On-campus clubs such as Korean Association, J-CAP, Chinese Association, Club Caribbean and African Unity and more will participate in the event. Plattsburgh has become a top destination for international students in the SUNY system. SUNY Plattsburgh is home to students from more than 63 countries.
