Center for the Study of Canada - Christopher Kirkey

Director

Christopher Kirkey is the Director of the Center for the Study of Canada at Plattsburgh State University of New York. Dr. Kirkey holds a concurrent appointment as Full Professor in the Department of Political Science at Plattsburgh, and serves as a Visiting Associate Professor in the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. Dr. Kirkey received a Ph.D. in Politics from Brandeis University in 1993, an M.A. in Political Studies from Queen's University in 1986 and a B.A. Honors from Queen's in 1985.

Chris has held several professional and academic appointments throughout his career, including

A keen observer and scholar of the Canada-United States political relationship, Dr. Kirkey has authored a wide variety of journal articles (i.e., International Journal of Canadian Studies, Journal of Canadian Studies, American Review of Canadian Studies), book chapters, conference papers, and commissioned reports. He is currently working on a book, "The Global Elimination of Landmines: The Origins, Negotiation & Implementation of the Ottawa Convention," for Indiana University Press.

Chris grew up in Cornwall, Ontario and is married to Donna (nee McCartney). They have three children: Mackenzie, Cameron, & Caroline.
