Strategic Initiatives

Green SUNY Plattsburgh

We invite you to participate in the college strategic initiative to "Green SUNY Plattsburgh." Our efforts will build on the college's rich history and legacy of environmental education, citizenship, and stewardship.

Environmental Conservation/Stewardship is one of five strategic themes in the SUNY Plattsburgh Strategic Plan for 2009-2012. It is time now to begin the process of developing and implementing a comprehensive program in campus sustainability.

Plattsburgh Sustainability Task Force

Dr. Lauren Eastwood (Sociology and Environmental Studies ) and Keith Tait (EHS Director) serve as co-chairs of the Plattsburgh Sustainability Task Force (PSTF). PSTF will coordinate with the Campus Committee on Environmental Responsibility.

PSTF has recommended the creation of nine focus groups organized into two general categories: "Culture, Communications and Activities" and "Campus Infrastructure" at its initial meeting on Planning Day (January 23, 2009).

Get Involved

If you would like to participate in our efforts, please e-mail Liz Woodard in the Provost's office with your expression of interest. Please indicate which topics would be of primary interest to you. Lauren Eastwood and Keith Tait will help facilitate and support the process. They will contact you and announce a schedule of meetings for the semester. Our goal is to develop a series of recommendations to be presented at a campus event on Earth Day, April 22, 2009.

Many thanks for your interest in Campus Sustainability at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Creative Revenue Generation Task Force

The Creative Generation Task Force is co-chaired by Dr. Nancy Church, Distinguished Service Professor and Chair of the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship, and Dr. Christopher Kirkey, Director of the Center for the Study of Canada.

The task force is charged with the following initiative:

"Identify short and long-term strategies and opportunities to broaden the college's revenue base and reduce dependence on state funds. These activities should embrace the creativity of our faculty and be consistent with our academic mission. They may range from recruitment of high tuition generating students to executive education. Consideration should also be given to more efficient operations for the entire campus. All activities should be revenue enhancing, but also consistent with the educational mission and new strategic plan of the college."

A total of thirteen people attended the initial Revenue-Generation break-out session held during the January Planning Day, which led to the formation of the Task Force. For additional information, please contact Pat Higgins.
