In order to ensure that you receive all of the benefits that you are entitled to, you must make sure to report all work-related injuries or illnesses to your supervisor or other designated official in your agency. If you do not know who this individual is please contact your personnel office to identify the appropriate individual for reporting injuries. Possession of this necessary information will enable you to make an initial report of your injury or illness and provide you with a point of contact for issues through your injury or illness. You are also encouraged to use the Accident Reporting System (ARS) by calling (888) 800-0029. Calling ARS assists in ensuring that your benefits are available to you as soon as possible and helps with tracking injuries and illnesses.
During any work-related absence, it is important that you follow your agency's rules for maintaining contact and submitting any needed medical information to the agency itself. Such rules and submissions may be in addition to any other requirements to submit medical information. Maintaining contact and communication will help ensure that you receive timely information about your benefits and any changes thereto, such as any requirement that you return to work light duty. If you have any questions about what these rules are please contact your personnel office.
Fraud and abuse of Workers' Compensation is not only illegal but expensive. Moreover, it greatly impacts the employees who remain at work, because they can find themselves subject to longer work hours, reduced time off and additional work assignments in order to cover for individuals who are improperly absent from work. If you suspect fraud or abuse, please contact the New York State Workers' Compensation Fraud Inspector General at (800) 367-4448. In an effort to combat fraud and abuse, the New York State Workers' Compensation Fraud Inspector General will be conducting training for agencies and employees to promote honesty, accountability and efficiency in state government.
Safety Concerns may be reported anonymously by completing a form and returning it to Environmental Health and Safety in the Service Building 136A. All reports will be investigated.
