Special Grants and Scholarships for NYC Students

If you are set to graduate from a high school in one of the five New York City boroughs, you may be able to significantly cut your tuition costs at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Your road to becoming a Cardinal is easier with a grant or a scholarship. Here's how you can be eligible:

Cardinal NYC Scholarship - $3,500 Renewable

  • Graduate from a high school in a New York City county: Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), New York (Manhattan), Queens or Richmond (Staten Island).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or other eligible non-citizen who pays the in-state tuition rate.
  • Earn a high school average and SAT score that meets the criteria for this scholarship. You can use our scholarship calculator to find out if you are eligible.
  • Graduate from high school in June 2017 and be accepted for admission to SUNY Plattsburgh.
  • Pay $250 deposit before starting freshman year. The funds are applied to other billed costs.
  • Attend full-time beginning in August 2017, taking 12 or more credits.
  • Live on campus.
  • Applicants to our nursing program are not eligible for the Cardinal NYC Scholarship but are instead eligible for the Cardinal Nursing Scholarship.

The Cardinal NYC Scholarship of $3,500 per year is deducted from billed costs. That's $1,750 per semester.

Students must maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average in each fall or spring semester to which the scholarship applies. Students may receive the scholarship for up to eight semesters of consecutive full-time study. One probationary semester is available if the student falls below cumulative GPA. If the student does not satisfy all the standards at the end of this probationary semester or in any future semester, the student becomes permanently ineligible for the award in future semesters.

Students who need to withdraw may maintain eligibility under certain circumstances.
