Individuals who park on campus must register their vehicles with the University Police. They are required to display a valid parking hangtag and abide by all Traffic & Parking Regulations when parking on campus property, including parking in designated parking spaces. Violations of campus Traffic & Parking Regulations may result in a citation and/or vehicle towing, depending on the severity and frequency of the violation(s).
Parking fees represent direct costs associated with maintaining and monitoring all campus parking facilities and is not meant to guarantee availability of convenient parking. Fees include a parking registration fee (hangtag fee) and the parking fee (authorization to park in designated spaces).
Faculty, staff and students are required to pay a parking fee according to their individual bargaining unit; there is no fee for vendors and visitors. The document Parking Fee Explained (PDF file size 75 KB) outlines these fee requirements.
SUNY Plattsburgh students, faculty and staff are required to register their vehicles online at My.Plattsburgh.edu. Individuals who are unable to log on using their NETID should submit a hardcopy of the application, which is available here:
After all parking fees are paid and vehicle is registered, the next step is to acquire a parking hangtag. Follow these simple instructions for obtaining a hangtag::
Note: these documents require the latest version of Acrobat Reader, which is available as a free download.
Visitors and vendors require a parking hangtag (permit) to park legally on campus. Please download the appropriate form and bring to University Police, Health Center (Bldg #37 on campus map), along with a valid photo ID and your vehicle registration.
Note: these documents require the latest version of Acrobat Reader, which is available as a free download.
Place hangtag on rearview mirror visible from the front of your vehicle; or, if necessary, tape hangtag to dashboard directly below the rearview mirror. One hangtag per vehicle is allowed (except for Handicapped hangtags which must be displayed OVER the regular parking permit.) NY State Law requires that nothing be permitted to hang below the rearview mirror while the vehicle is in motion.
Hangtag ownership is NOT transferable. The hangtag owner is responsible for all parking violations issued to any vehicle bearing the hangtag. It is the hangtag owner’s responsibility to inform family and friends of the parking rules and regulations.
The operator of a vehicle parked on campus – with or without a vehicle hangtag - is presumed to be affiliated with the University. The person affiliated with the University is responsible for all parking tickets and/or towing issued to the individual’s vehicle or any other family member’s vehicle.
You have the right to appeal a parking ticket. All appeals must go through the Appeals Board. Only written appeals will be heard (see Parking Appeals Form). You may support a written appeal by appearing in person at the next appeals meeting following your appeal submission. Appeal meetings are held each Wednesday at 1:30pm in the Angell College Center MEETING ROOM 5 if you would like to appear in person. Please note that the Parking Manager does not have the authority to individually hear a verbal appeal. Inquiries related to parking tickets must be submitted in writing to parking@plattsburgh.edu. This allows for the appropriate handling and response to inquiries in the manner by which they were received.
