SUNY Plattsburgh Conference on Teaching and Learning: Call for Proposals

The State University of New York College at Plattsburgh's Center for Teaching Excellence will host a conference on teaching and learning.
"Discovering the Joy of Teaching" will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 from 9:00 am to 4:10 pm at the SUNY Plattsburgh Campus in Yokum Hall. Faculty and other professionals from throughout the SUNY colleges will be invited to attend. Don't miss the opportunity to participate in our inaugural conference!

Invitation to Submit Proposals
Faculty are invited to submit proposals for interactive workshops and presentations on teaching and learning across the disciplines in keeping with the conference theme, "Discovering the Joy of Teaching."
Suggestions for contributions include strategies and techniques that contribute to healthy relationships between faculty and students, positive classroom learning environments, and ways to inspire and sustain the passion for teaching. Strategies may be related to any instructional format, including forms of e-learning. Proposals should be characterized by emphasis on engagement of the participants in the presentations.

Program Formats
Workshops will be 1 hour in duration; Presented to an audience of 20 - 30 participants. Ideally, workshops will be presented by one to three speakers on a topic appropriate for a great deal of discussion and exchange of ideas.
Faculty are encouraged to submit a proposal for a poster session. Posters should describe innovative teaching practices or report experimentation in teaching techniques.
Selection Process
Submissions will be reviewed by the Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence and the CTE Task Force. Presenters will be notified by December 1, 2008 of their acceptance. The committee will select programs that demonstrate the greatest potential for contributing to the quality of the conference.
Criteria for Evaluation
- Clarity of session relevance to theme
- Clarity of description of planned session activities
- Innovative quality of teaching strategies
- Evidence for success of strategies
- Appropriate references for background information
- Overall quality and audience appeal.

- Session Description: No longer than 500 words, (including a 75-word description of the session for the conference program)
- Audiovisual and/or tech requests
Deadline for Submission: November 1, 2008.
