- About Plattsburgh
Welcome to the Plattsburgh family! As the Director of Special Programs it is my job to make sure that all special program students have the support they need to succeed academically at SUNY Plattsburgh. I love my job because I love our students.
For some, love may seem like a strong word - but truly there is no other word adequate to describe the depth of feeling I have for the intelligent and exciting students I have met over the years.
We share a special connection with the students at Plattsburgh and in many cases beyond their years here. I have students send me pictures of their weddings, their jobs, their children and all the other exciting times that happen in their lives - and I cherish each one. I hope to meet you and add you to my extended clan.
Hometown: Chazy, New York
Professional/Personal Biography: I am a second generation Plattsburgh graduate. My mother graduated from Plattsburgh in the 1950s and I followed her in the 1970's - the first time! My undergraduate degree was in Home Economics Education. After my undergrad, I flitted through a wide variety of jobs, until I decided to return to school. In my graduate program I earned a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a CAS in School Counseling. I started at Student Support Services in 1987 and have been there ever since. I earned my last degree, an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, from the University of Vermont in 2002. And yes, I am still paying off my student loans! I live with my three black kitties - Xerox, Monet and Khala! The names all have stories - so if you're a cat person - you can ask me about it when you see me.
Most Memorable College Experience: No doubt, it was getting hooded for my doctorate which fulfilled a life-long dream!
Hobbies: If it can be done sitting down I'm there! I quilt, cross stitch, crochet (I was a Home Economics Major). Anything crafty. I LOVE rocks and gemstones and collect them. I love going to sites where you can mine for your own beautiful gemstones. I am also a voracious reader - on a good week I can finish three to four books! There just aren't enough hours in the day for everything that interests me. I am NEVER bored!
Favorite Plattsburgh State Activity: Graduation is my favorite because it is a closing for my students. I also love basketball, hockey, soccer, the jazz concerts, the Miss Caribbean Pageant (a must see), Gospel Choir, Alternative Break Auction, the Presidents Holiday Gala - I guess I just love Plattsburgh!
Best advice you would give someone regarding college: Laugh! Nothing beats true joy!
