- About Plattsburgh
Hello! My name is Aruna Gandhi and I am the Assistant Director of Student Support Services. My duties in the office are varied. I work closely with the Director, Dr. Michele Carpentier, to help students receive the best services possible from our office. My main responsibility is to assist eligible students who utilize extended time testing. In addition, I work closely with international students who have English as their second language and use our facilities to take exams in a quiet, unhurried environment.
Hometown: Plattsburgh, NY
Professional/Personal Biography: I was born and raised in India, where I received my bachelor's degree and taught in a local school. After marriage I accompanied my husband to Plattsburgh, where he was a faculty member in the School of Business and Economics. I have taken several courses in accounting and business at SUNY Plattsburgh, so I am therefore familiar with students' needs and challenges. I try to bring that perspective to my work at Student Support Services. My husband and I have two daughters and a new granddaughter.
Most Memorable College Experiences: Receiving the "Educator of the Year" award in 1989 and the Student Affairs "Vision Award for Excellence" in 2006.
Hobbies: Watching NBA games (my favorite team is the New York Knicks).
Favorite SUNY Plattsburgh Activity: Watching the athletic events on campus.
Best advice you would give someone regarding college: My advice to students is to get the most from their education and their college experience. Regardless of their class standing, they should keep an eye on their resume to see what would attract prospective employers to offer them their first job.
