SUNY PLATTSBURGH VOICE MAIL BROADCAST MESSAGING POLICY

(Approved at Executive Council on August 16, 2005)

Voice mail broadcasts are meant to advise the campus community of telecommunications network or other computer related outages that affect many users, last minute cancellations of campus wide events, emergencies that are institutionally related, significant weather advisories, health and safety, class information, and other important messages of general concern.

The campus voice mail system is considered to be an official form of communication for students, faculty and staff.  Use of the voice mail 'broadcast messaging' feature is restricted to the aforementioned events.  Requests for broadcast messaging must be made at least 48 hours in advance of the date of the scheduled event; except in the case of an emergency, requests may be made by fax or handwritten memo to the Telecommunications Office.
