What Will I Learn?

Our two-year (full time, five semesters including one summer) program prepares you for licensure as a clinical speech-language pathologist or teacher of children with speech or language disabilities. Our program meets the academic and graduate clinical clock-hour requirements for ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence and teacher certification and licensure in New York state (and most other states/Canada).

You’ll gain clinical experience in a variety of settings and work with faculty who are experts in their area of study and you will be prepared to work in any professional setting.

  • Over 20-year history of exclusive affiliation with University of Vermont Health Network at Champlain Valley Physicians’ Hospital with experiences including:
    • Outpatient and inpatient dysphagia
    • Video fluoroscopy
    • Fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES)
    • Outpatient pediatrics
    • Outpatient and inpatient adult neurogenics
  • Master’s thesis option.
  • Graduate assistantships within the department
  • Volunteer opportunities to participate in ongoing faculty research
  • The Communication Sciences and Disorders Department holds at least one continuing education event for students and local professionals per year and is recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association as an approved continuing education provider.

What Are My Career Opportunities?

Speech-pathologists are able to work in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals, early intervention settings, private practice, long-term care facilities and universities.
