About Course Withdrawal

For full-semester courses, commencing on the 8th calendar day of the semester (fall and spring) and ending at midnight on the Friday of the 10th week (fall and spring semesters), a student who submits a completed Course Schedule Adjustment Form may withdraw from any class, after consultation with his/her course instructor and advisor and, beginning in the fourth week, payment of a $20 withdrawal fee.

In the case of courses that are less than full semester, the student may withdraw from a course through the course schedule adjustment process until the midpoint (50%) in the course.

The course withdrawal fee will apply at a point equivalent to the beginning of week four of a full semester course. This equivalent for the $20 fee will be the 20% completion point in the course.

Course withdrawal may affect the student's financial aid eligibility or grace period repayment, medical insurance coverage, athletic eligibility, and timely completion of degree requirements.

Course Withdrawal Procedure for Online Courses Only

  1. A student may initiate a course withdrawal by emailing the instructor of the course to
formally request a course withdrawal. The student must submit the email request for course withdrawal using his/her Plattsburgh Webmail account. The effective date of the course withdrawal is based on the date of the student's initial email to his/her instructor requesting a course withdrawal.
  2. The instructor of the course forwards the approval of the course withdrawal to
registrar@plattsburgh.edu for processing using his/her Plattsburgh Webmail account.
  3. An e-mail notification is generated automatically and forwarded to the student's instructor(s) and academic advisors(s) once the course withdrawal is notated on the student's academic record.
  4. The $20 course withdrawal fee as described above is assessed.
  5. Students are responsible for contacting the Financial Aid Office to determine the
    consequences of course withdrawal.
