Authorization for an Undergraduate Student to Take a Graduate Course
In order to take a graduate course, for undergraduate or graduate credit, an undergraduate student: a) must have at least one hundred five (105) completed credits; b) must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (and a major GPA of at least 3.0 if the graduate course to be taken is in the student’s major); c) cannot register for more than six (6) graduate credits per semester; d) cannot register for more than sixteen (16) credit hours of undergraduate and graduate courses combined during that semester; e) cannot accumulate more than six (6) graduate credits; f) must specify in advance whether the course will be applied to the undergraduate degree program or will count as non-matriculated graduate credit; and g) mustreceive the approval of the instructor and the chair of the department offering the course, and of his/her advisor, department chairperson, and academic dean; and h) students receiving financial aid must be enrolled in a minimum of twelve (12) credits applicable toward their undergraduate degree in order to be eligible for financial aid. Completion, approval, and submission of the Authorization for an Undergraduate Student to Take a Graduate Level Course form to the Registrar's Office is required to enable undergraduates to register for 500-level courses (graduate courses).
Course: Add
Students may add courses during the priority/course adjustment periods and during the first week of each fall/spring semester (winter/summer drop and add dates are posted in the Registration Guidebooks ). When adding a course after the add/drop period, students are required to complete a Course Schedule Adjustment form. A $20 late add fee applies to all courses added after the published deadline.
Course:Drop
Students may drop courses during the priority/course adjustment periods and during the first week of each fall/spring semester without penalty (no tuition liability). When viewing the class schedule, select the drop option located next to the course and click on Submit Changes. Students complete a Course Schedule Adjustment form beginning the second week of the fall or spring semester to officially withdraw from the course. Students may drop winter and summer session courses until the first day of classes. After the first day, a Course Schedule Adjustment form to process a course withdrawal must be completed, approved, and delivered to the Registrar's Office for processing.
Course: Withdrawal
For full-semester courses, commencing on the eighth day of the semester (fall and spring) and ending at midnight on the Friday of the 10th week (fall and spring semesters), a student who submits a completed Course Schedule Adjustment form may withdraw from any class, after consultation with his/her course instructor and advisor. In the case of courses that are less than full semester, see the instructor for the deadline date. The academic record will indicate a W which is not computed into the grade point average. Course withdrawal is not normally allowed after the published withdrawal date. In extreme circumstances, however, a student can appeal for a late withdrawal to the dean under whose jurisdiction the course is offered. Appeals for late withdrawal must be accompanied by documentation of the extreme circumstance. A $20 course withdrawal fee is assessed for each course withdrawal.
Credit Load (Maximum)
Undergraduate students may enroll for a maximum of 18 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters and a maximum of six credit hours for a regular five-week summer or winter session. To take 19-23 credits per semester (or 16-18 in all sessions of one summer or 8-9 credits in a winter session), students must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 is required in order to apply for authorization to take over 23 credits in a spring or fall, over 18 credits in all sessions of one summer, or over 9 credits in winter session. Graduate students may enroll for a maximum of 15 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters and a maximum of six credit hours for a reqular five-week summer or winter session. Permission to exceed this limit must be obtained from the student's advisor and department chairperson. Student should have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA before permission to register for an overload is granted. Students must file with the Registrar's Office an Authorization of Register for Credit Hour Overload form that has been approved by the student's advisor, chairperson, and dean of their primary major. Approval of the credit-hour overload must be received and processed by the Registrar's Office to enable online registration for credits above the established maximum limits. Non-matriculated students must receive permission from the director of Admissions for more than 11 credits fall/spring/summer and 7 winter.

Hybrid Course
This course uses both classroom and web instruction. Select the LWB schedule type from the Banner Web Course Master Schedule search field to view all hybrid (lecture/online combined) courses.
Independent Study Registration
Students cannot register for independent studies online. Complete the Independent Study form, obtain approval and submit to the Registrar's Office by the end of the second week of each fall or spring semester.
Mathematics Notes
Students who have taken MAT102 or higher may not enroll in or receive credit for MAT101. Students who have taken Calculus may not enroll in or receive credit for MAT101 or MAT102. MAT104A meets during the first five weeks of the semester plus an exam meeting and should be for students who have already completed MAT102. It may be taken concurently with MAT221, MAT222, or MAT224. MAT104 B meets during the last five and one-half weeks of the semester before exam week and should be for students who are not yet enrolled in MAT222 or MAT224. It may be taken concureently with MAT102 or MAT221. Mathematics Competency Test: All students must take the Mathematics Competency Test before enrolling in any math class above MAT101, unless they a) transferred credit for a course equivalent to MAT101 or higer as indicated on the transfer evaluation (CAPP) prepared by Admissions, b) entered Plattsburgh State as a freshman fall 1997 or later and scored at least 460 on the SAT or 16 on the ACT Math secion, or c) passed MAT101 at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Online Course (Web)
A course delivered through the Internet using web-based software. Certain computer skills and a degree of self-determination are necessary to be successful. Students interact with the instructor and other students through the ANGEL course-management system and e-mail. The format is flexible, often letting students log on to the course at any time. However, an instructor may hold synchronous discussions, requiring students to be virtually present at specific times. Online courses typically follow the academic calendar. Some instructors may require proctoring of examinations, where students would need to travel to a local campus to take exams. Select the WEB schedule type from the Banner Web Course Master Schedule search field to view all online courses.
PIN Disabled/Reset
Five consecutive login failures disable the student's PIN. If a student forgets or disables his/her PIN, contact the Registrar's Office , Academic Advising Office , or Computer Information Systems .
Registration Code
All matriculated, undergraduate students are required to obtain a registration code to access Banner Web registration during the priority registration period. Undergraduate students who are studying abroad, graduate students, and non-matriculated students are not required to use a registration code. The registration code is printed on students' midterm grade reports and distributed by students' advisors during the two-week course advisement period prior to registration.
Registration Error Messages
- Approval Required: Registration restricted until student obtains permission to register from the department chairperson or the coordinator of a special program.
- Campus Restriction: Only students located at a specific location may register. Some courses are restricted for matriculated, undergraduate students attending our Branch Campus at Adirondack Community College.
- Class Level Restriction: Only students at a specific class level are allowed to register. Class levels are upper/lower-level freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The class level restriction is defined in the prerequisites for each course. Click on the course link to view course description and prerequisites.
- Closed Course: Course enrollment is at maximum. Students are encouraged to waitlist on closed courses until the end of course adjustment. Students must obtain the department chairperson's approval to add a closed course. If approval is granted, the department chair enters an approval code in Banner. The student is responsible for adding the course via the Banner Web Add/Drop form by entering the course reference number (CRN) in the registration box at the bottom of the form. The student must then click on the Submit button to process the registration.
- Corequisite: If a course has a corequisite, the courses must be added simultaneously in Banner to permit registration (e.g., BIO101A lecture and BIO101LA lab).
- Degree Restriction: Only students in a specific degree program are allowed to register.
- Level Restrictions: Only students in a specific level (undergraduate or graduate) are allowed to register. All graduate courses (500 level) have been coded with a graduate-level registration restriction.
- Major Restriction: Only students in a specific major may register. Most major restrictions are defined in the prerequisites. If not, contact the respective academic department.
- Prerequisite: Student has not completed prerequisites for a course. Click on the course link to view course description and prerequisites.
- Reserved: Seats reserved for specific group registrations such as Learning Communities, SSS/EOP/ESL students only, or incoming students. Students are encouraged to waitlist on courses with reserved seats.
Registration Fees
Currently enrolled students who do not register during the priority registration period will be assessed a $40 late registration fee. Students who do not complete their registrations by the end of the first week of the fall/spring semesters will be assessed a $20 fee per course late add and course withdrawal.

Registration Time Ticket (Student's Assigned Date & Time to Register)
Each student is assigned a registration time ticket, which is the date and time a student is granted access to Banner Web registration. The registration time ticket is printed on the student's Midterm Grade Report and is available on Banner Web/Registration Menu/Add-Drop Classes form. Advisors also have access to each advisees' registration time ticket information on Banner Web. If a student plans to register and has not been assigned a registration time ticket, contact the Registrar's Office for assistance. Matriculated, graduate students who are not currently enrolled for courses during the current term are assigned a registration time ticket only after notifying the Registrar's Office of intent to return.
Tuition Liability
Students are responsible for all information existing on their registration records, including tuition and fees associated with all courses.

Video-Conference Course
Two-way audio and video feeds are delivered through a communication system with large plasma monitors in conjunction with screens and projectors between the main campus and the branch campus at ACC. Students registering for this type of course will be in a classroom with the projectors and monitors.The instructor teaches live from either location. Select the TEL schedule type from the Banner Web Course Master Schedule search field to view all video-conference courses.
