About Courses Offered
FRE/GER/SPA 111
For absolute beginners, or for students with only one or two years of high school French, German or Spanish, who remember very little. Students with two or more years of French, German, or Spanish will not be permitted to take this course - they should take FRE/SPA 150 and also should take the Placement Exam. Successful completion of this course satisfies the SUNy-mandated foreign language requirement.
FRE/GER/SPA 112
A continuation of FRE/GER/SPA 111 and should only be taken by students coming out of that course or in lieu of 150 when 150 is not offered. Successful completion of FRE/GER/SPA 112 satisfies the one-year foreign language requirement for education majors.
FRE/SPA 150
For students with two or more years of high school French or Spanish, or the equivalent in life experience. FRE/SPA 150 accomplishes a curriculum equivalent to FRE/SPA 111 and FRE/SPA 112. Successful completion of FRE/SPA 150 satisfies the one-year foreign language requirement for education majors. Although beginning at different points, FRE/SPA 112 and FRE/SPA 150 are designed to end at the same proficiency level, which permits entrance into FRE/SPA 213.
GER 150
There is no GER 150 equivalent; students should take GER 112.
FRE/GER/SPA 213
A second-year course, normally reserved for those coming out of FRE/GER/SPA 112 or FRE/SPA 150 or for those who have had at least ofur or five solid years of high-school French, German, or Spanish. Placement in FRE/GER/SPA 213 is possible but can be accomplished only through the Placement Exam.
FRE/SPA 214
A continuation of FRE/SPA 213. GER 315 is a continuation of GER 213.
