However, how often do all the so-called experts have an opportunity to get together and approach the subject matter with their respective intellectual weaponry in a public forum. The lesons to be learned are many, as this is nothing if not an educational enterprise for all involved.
The deconstruction, postmodern analysis, social implications, psychological ramifications, philosophical underpinnings, and downright differences of opinion surrounding these films should be quite interesting, if not rewarding to all who attend.
Faculty will have access to how their colleagues from different disciplines and pedagogy engage material. Students will be made privy to some of the nuances and subtleties of film-making and storytelling that they may not have noticed, nor ever would. Staff and the surrounding community may provide a fresh, non-academic, and just as important, non-rigorous interpretation or perspective on the film.
Everyone will have an opportunity to be introduced to a plethora of perspectives that always abound in a community, but usually are not shared.
Please join us in expanding our horizons and sharing in the educational and intellectual excitement of the CDPI Film Series. The series will run monthly and the films will be popular, sometimes controversial, and highly entertaining glimpses into the messages we receive through the media, sometimes unbeknownst to us. The films that we will watch this year are:
Our Diversity Film Series is open to the campus and it's FREE. The film screening is followed by a rap session, or what we call, The WRAP Session! The WRAP Session is a discussion that follows the movie. It is the centerpiece for the evening. The conversation is moderated, but the audience is able to express what they feel about the movie through critiques and comments.
