Fraternity/Sorority Chapter Accreditation Program Requirements
Revised: Spring 2006
The purpose of the Chapter Accreditation program is to assist chapters in monitoring and improving their own activity and performance. Revisions to this program are made through committee recommendation to the governance councils.
Chapter Rating Scale
- Five Star Chapter - Chapters of Excellence
- Four Star Chapter - Above Average Chapters
- Three Star Chapter - Accredited Chapters
*Any chapters that do meet the three star requirements are not accredited and will lose recognition by the Interfraternity Council or Inter-Sorority Association.
* Requirements and electives are accumulated each semester and are monitored in part through the submission of the Monthly Report Forms, Semester Recognition packets, and Semester Self Studies. At the beginning of each academic year, these statistics are reset to zero.
Three Star Requirements:
The following three-star requirements are based upon the four fraternal principles. Chapters who do not meet these requirements will lose their recognition by the Interfraternity Council or Inter-Sorority Association.
Scholarship:
- Minimum GPA for active members: 2.3
- Submit a written academic plan to Fraternity/Sorority Life
Service:
- Raise at least $5/member for philanthropy/year
- Perform at least of 10 service hours/year per member
Friendship:
- 25% of the chapter must attend another Fraternity/Sorority's wellness/education/philanthropy event once/semester
Leadership:
- 75% Attendance at ISA/IFC delegate meetings
- Chapter Recognition Packet, Semester Self Studies & Monthly Reports turned in
- All New Members attend meet as a group with the Director of Fraternity/Sorority Life the week their new member program begins.
- Membership cards turned in on time
- 75% of Training Day Workshops attended each semester
- Turn in New Member Education Program one month prior to beginning program
Four Star Requirements:
Chapter wishing to achieve four star status must complete the following, then choose seven electives. A chapter may work on three and four star requirements simultaneously, but will not achieve four star status unless the three star requirements are complete.
- Complete all 3-star requirements
- Send letters to all New Member parents/families (Copies must be provided to Center for Fraternity/Sorority Life)
- 75% of new members must attend the New Member Values Institute each semester
- Meet with faculty advisor once/month
- Attend Presidents/Advisor's Council once/month
- 25% of chapter attend a non-Fraternity/Sorority event once/semester
- 50% of members have a semester GPA above all-campus average
- Hold a wellness program for the chapter once/semester
- Raise at least $15/member for philanthropy/year
- Perform at least of 20 service hours/year per member
- Hold a college service event once/semester
- Have one non-alcoholic social event with another fraternity or sorority once/semester
- Submit a written recruitment plan
- Submit a code of conduct within two weeks of each semester
- Hold a goal setting meeting and submit goals with the first month of each semester
- Have house inspected by the end of the fall semester (if applicable)
- Minimum 50% attendance at Week to GIVE
- Minimum 50% attendance at Greek Week
- Fulfill all financial obligations, including insurance and ISA/IFC dues
- Consult with the Director of Fraternity/Sorority Life two weeks prior to New Member Education to review the program.
Four Star Electives - Choose Six:
- One member participates in Alternative Break
- One member attends a leadership conference once/year
- Play one season of an intramural sport
- 25% of members are involved in other clubs/orgs
- 25% of members are in an honor society
- Apply for fraternity/sorority awards in the spring
- Facilitate a fraternity/sorority leadership program once/year as an organization
- Update webpage every semester
- Publication in National Magazine/Press Republican/Cardinal Points (initiated by Chapter)
Choose One:
- All New Members' GPA: 2.5 or higher
- All Active Members' GPA: 2.5 or higher
- All Executive Members' GPA: 2.6 or higher
Five Star Requirements:
Five star status will be given to exceptional chapters that go above and beyond the basic requirements of a four star chapter. They must complete the following, then choose six electives. A chapter may work on four and five star requirements simultaneously, but may not achieve five star status until all four star requirements are completed.
- Complete 4-star requirements and electives
- Have at least 50% of the chapter attend two non-fraternal events (i.e. club or sporting event)
- Hold a values-based program for the chapter once a semester and have it pre-approved by the Director of Fraternity/Sorority life
- Raise at least $25/member for philanthropy/year
- Perform at least of 30 service hours/year per member
- Have two non-alcoholic social events with another fraternity or sorority each semester
- Not found guilty of any judicial charges against the group from the college
- Faculty Advisor must attend one event or chapter meeting each semester
- Initiate 80% of New Members
- Have an 80% Member Retention rate each semester (excluding graduates)
- Go through New Member Education Consultation (must be scheduled at least one month in advance)
Electives - Choose 6:
- Have at least one new member attend Future Fraternal Leaders Series each semester
- Have 25% of members enrolled in the Leadership Certification Program
- One member serves as an SA Senator
- One member serves as an RA
- One member on ISA/IFC Executive Board
- Register all social events with alcohol through the Center for Fraternity/Sorority Life
- Initiate 15 members during the academic year
- Host a GAP - GLBTQ Education Program once/semester
- Co-host one education or philanthropy event with another fraternity or sorority once/semester
