Committees

President's/Advisor's Council

Each month, presidents and faculty advisors of fraternity/sorority chapters and governing councils gather together to discuss issues of common concern. Chapter presidents develop the agenda for and facilitate each of these meetings. The first President's/Advisor's Council meeting of each academic year includes a luncheon hosted by the Center for Fraternity/Sorority Life.

Committee on Fraternal Affairs (COFA)

The Committee on Fraternal Affairs (COFA) is a standing committee established to advise the College President or his/her designee on any and all issues that relate to fraternity and sorority policy and recognition at SUNY-Plattsburgh. COFA makes recommendations to the Inter-Sorority Association and Interfraternity Council. Upon a vote for a policy change by both councils, the change is recommended by the Director of Fraternity/Sorority Life and Vice President for Student Affairs to the College President for approval. The Committee also serves in an advisory capacity.

The committee consists of the following representatives: Director of Fraternity/Sorority Life (Chair), Vice President for Student Affairs (Ex-Officio), Graduate Assistant for Fraternity/Sorority Life, Inter-Sorority Association President, Interfraternity Council President, Chapter Accreditation Program Coordinator, Student Association President (or Ex-Officio), a sorority representative at large, a fraternity representative at large, one male and one female non-affiliated student at large, two faculty/staff who serve as advisors to fraternities/sororities, two faculty/staff who do not serve as an advisor, and one fraternity or sorority alumnus.

Fraternity/Sorority Alcohol Task Force

The Fraternity/Sorority Alcohol Task Force was created upon recommendation from the 2005 – 2010 Strategic Plan to develop a plan to advocate responsible use of alcohol by all members of the college community and refrain from activities that align the image of fraternity/sorority life with excessive alcohol use and/or abuse. The committee consists of fraternity/sorority leaders, faculty advisors and alumni and is chaired by the Director of Fraternity/Sorority Life. Using assessment, focus groups, outside consultations, and conversations facilitated during fraternity/sorority leadership programs, the Task Force will develop an action plan to reduce the amount of high risk drinking in fraternities and sororities by May 2008.
