Fraternal Standards Manual

This publication is produced by the Center for Fraternity/Sorority Life to communicate the rules, regulations, and expectations of fraternities and sororities to the members of these organizations. All fraternity/sorority members are responsible for knowing and abiding by these standards. In addition, all clubs and organizations, including fraternities and sororities are responsible for knowing and abiding by the policies in the SUNY-Plattsburgh Club and Organization Conduct Manual, available in the Office of the Dean of Students.

Fraternity/Sorority Life Calendar 2007-08

Updates will be made to this calendar periodically and released the first week of each month. Members should make sure they are using the most current version of this calendar (the revision date is located in the upper left-hand corner of each page). To have events added to the calendar, email Allison Swick-Duttine, Director of Fraternity/Sorority Life, no later than the third week of each month at allison.swick@plattsburgh.edu .

Chapter Accreditation Program

The Chapter Accreditation Program was created in Spring 2000 by a group of fraternity and sorority members to create a set of standards for all fraternal organizations to strive to achieve. This program, based on a five-star model, may be modified biannually by members of the SUNY-Plattsburgh Fraternity/Sorority Community. The information is self-reported by each organization through a monthly report and compiled and monitored by a student Chapter Accreditation Program Coordinator hired by the Center for Fraternity/Sorority Life. All five-star incentives for this program are provided by SUNY-Plattsburgh through the Center for Fraternity/Sorority Life.

Recruitment & New Member Education Process

SUNY-Plattsburgh allows fraternities and sororities to recruit new members continuously each semester. Organizations may take as many new member classes as they want each year, as long as they abide by the recruitment and new member education policies as listed in the Fraternal Standards Manual. In order to maintain accurate membership files, each organization is required to submit the following forms during the recruitment and new member education process.
