Organizational Leadership Programs

Training Day

This series of workshops is held at the beginning of each semester to provide training, advice, and suggestions for various chapter officers and chairpersons. These workshops are facilitated by Interfraternity Council and Inter-Sorority Association Executive Board members and the Center for Fraternity/Sorority Life staff. The fall Training Day is based on positional leadership while the spring version is based on leadership topics.

Fraternal Lecture Series

Nationally-known lecturers are brought to campus each year to speak to fraternity and sorority members on topics that are relevant to their organizations. Fraternity/sorority leaders assist in the program content selection and the funding, publicity and promotions process. Past speakers have included David Stollman, Judge Mitch Crane, Rick Barnes, Shane Windmeyer, Dave Westol, Dr. Lori Hart Ebert, Josh Orendi, Hank Nuwer, Mark Sterner, Pete Smithhisler and T.J. Sullivan.

Programs scheduled for 2007-2008 include:

National & Regional Leadership Conferences

Each year, the Center for Fraternity/Sorority Life sends chapter and governance council leaders to national and regional leadership programs including the Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute (UIFI), FuturesQuest, Recruitment Boot Camp, the Northeast Greek Leadership Association Conference (NGLA) and the St. Jude Leadership Institute. In addition, several programs have been brought to campus to educate a greater number of fraternity/sorority leaders including the NIC Alcohol Summit, Phired Up Production's Fraternity Recruitment Retreat, Recruitment Boot Camp, and the Crossing the Line (formerly the Campus Anti-Hazing Program). Members interested in attending these or similar events should contact the Center for Fraternity/Sorority Life for information and/or financial support.

Events include:

Fraternal Leadership Resource Library

This library, located in the Center for for Organizational Development, contains books, publications, videos, handouts, and other resources to assist fraternity/sorority officers and chairpersons in fulfilling their leadership responsibilities. Materials are available for loan to both members and advisors. In addition, if a member has a special request for a resource not available in the library, the Center for Fraternity/Sorority Life will be happy to order it.

The Center for Fraternity/Sorority Life will create and facilitate custom workshops or retreats for individual organizations upon request. Topics can include, but are not limited to: group problem-solving, goal-setting, values and action congruence, teambuilding, and officer transition.
