Center for Fraternity/Sorority Life Staff

Allison Swick-Duttine, Director

Allison Swick-Duttine has worked at SUNY-Plattsburgh since October 1998. As the Director of Fraternity/Sorority Life & Organization Development, she advises the 14 fraternities/sororities, two governance councils, and three honor societies. In addition, she coordinates values-based programming and training, maintains organizational records and statistics, publicizes the work of the fraternity/sorority community, and provides additional support to organizations as needed. Allison is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, the Association of Fraternity Advisors, the SUNY Fraternity/Sorority Advisors Association, and the Board of Directors for HazingPrevention.org, Gamma Sigma Alpha Honor Society and the Northeast Greek Leadership Association. She holds an M.A. in Student Affairs Counseling and a B.A. in Magazine Journalism from Marshall University. Allison can be contacted at allison.swick@plattsburgh.edu .

J.J. Reardon, Program Coordinator

J.J. Reardon, Program Coordinator, assists the Director in developing and facilitating values-based curriculum for workshops, seminars, retreats, and institutes, including the Future Fraternal Leaders Seminar, the New Initiate Values Institute, the Alcohol Task Force, and National Hazing Prevention Week. He is also responsible for the logistical and technical details of these programs, including facility and A/V reservations, publicity, promotions, recruitment, and assessment/evaluation. J.J. is the past president of Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity, a former Interfraternity Council Executive Board member, a graduate of the Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute (UIFI), and the 2006 Plattsburgh State New Member of the Year. Stephanie Ruiz, Fund Raising Coordinator

Stephanie Ruiz is responsible for coordinating large-scale fund raising projects, such as the Plattsburghopoly Board Game, to fund leadership programming for the fraternity/sorority community. She also develops educational programming for chapter fund raisers and treasurers. Stephanie is a founder and President of Sigma Lambda Upsilon Sorority and was named the 2007 Fraternal President of Excellence. Stephanie can be contacted at ruiz1914@mail.plattsburgh.edu .

Shannon Powers, Chapter Accreditation Program Coordinator

Shannon Powers is responsible for the continual development, implementation, education, and oversight of the Fraternity/Sorority Chapter Accreditation Program. This program, developed by fraternity and sorority members in 2001, was created to assist chapters in monitoring and improving their own activity and performance. Shannon, a member of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority, is the Inter-Association President and a recipient of a 2007 Fraternal Emerging Leader Award. Rebecca Sorenson, Greek Ally Project Coordinator

Rebecca Sorenson develops and presents educational training and programs to promote understanding and acceptance of sexual orientation issues in fraternities and sororities. She is responsible for the marketing of the program, in addition to the curriculum development, and presentation of modules to individual fraternities and sororities. Jay Biegner, Student Assistant for Public Relations & Recruitment

Jay Biegner coordinates the Center for Fraternity/Sorority Life's public relations efforts, including educating organizations about effective publicity techniques and communicating with the Office of Institutional Advancement. He also coordinates the Membership Clearinghouse, which includes monitoring potential member eligibility, maintaining membership lists, and tracking the new member education process from bid acceptance through initiation. Whitney Jahn, Student Assistant for Special Projects & Strategic Planning

Whitney Jahn initiates the creation and coordination of special projects, including the monitoring of the Fraternity/Sorority Strategic Plan initiatives, and the development of specialized programming in areas including family outreach, alumni relations, scholarship programs, and faculty/staff partnerships. Whitney is a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority, the former president of the Inter-Sorority Association, and a member of Rho Lambda Honor Society. Kylie Smith, Student Assistant for Center Operations

Kylie Smith is responsible for general office operations, including maintaining resource files and archives. She is a the President of Sigma Delta Tau Sorority, a former Inter-Sorority Association Executive Board member, and the 2007 Plattsburgh State New Member of the Year. Sherlene Ayala, Graduate Intern

Sherlene Ayala is pursuing a Masters in Counselor Education with a specialization in Student Affairs. She will be interning in the Center for Fraternity/Sorority Life during the 2007-08 academic year. Sherlene works with the Interfraternity Council in an advisory capacity and is charged with the development of council officer transition and goal-setting programs. She is also assisting with the development and facilitation of a 3-credit fraternal leadership class for fraternity/sorority officers and the creation of a comprehensive assessment plan for the Center. Sherlene is a member of Omega Phi Beta Sorority and plans to pursue a career in fraternity/sorority advising. Sherlene can be contacted at ayal3589@mail.plattsburgh.edu .
