Strategic Plan Initiatives 2005-2010

The 21st Century Fraternal Organization: Strategic Plan of the Fraternity/Sorority Community at SUNY Plattsburgh

Our Mission

As the Fraternity/Sorority Community, we promote the principles of friendship, scholarship, leadership, and service while providing an intellectually stimulating and socially diverse college experience. Together, each fraternal organization aims to achieve common goals that enrich the individual, college, and community. Members are empowered to reach their full potential so that upon graduation they will emerge as better citizens.

Our Vision

To enrich the college experience by promoting values-based programs and providing opportunities to develop a stronger sense of citizenship and self.

Strategic Plan Initiatives for 2005-2010

  1. Alcohol and Substance Abuse - Advocate responsible use of alcohol by all members of the college community and refrain from activities that align the image of fraternity/sorority life with excessive alcohol use and/or abuse.
  2. Community Standards - Establish standards of behavior and ethical practices for all fraternity/sorority members - both individually and in their respective organizations - that reflect the high ideals of friendship, leadership, scholarship, and service.
  3. Partnerships - Cultivate external opportunities for connections with other campus constituencies, community agencies, school districts, corporate groups, and others that are mutually beneficial to the fraternity/sorority and campus community.
  4. Organizational Development - Promote a programmatic approach at the chapter level. Organizational development will promote both individual members and allow organizations to flourish.
  5. Personal Development - Provide growth opportunities for all members that will promote excellence in friendship, leadership, and scholarship, and service while at the college and throughout life.
  6. Growth - Double the number of fraternity and sorority members on campus.

A strategic plan provides a stable base from which to begin achieving our goals, but remains flexible to allow us to meet new challenges through the creative and collaborative process.
