Residence Hall Basics

About Resident Assistants (R.A.)

The RA's are generally undergraduate students and have gone through a lengthy selection and training process. The role of the RA is that of liaison serving as the link between the Student Affairs staff (as well as other administrative personnel) and the students. The RA's primary function is to act as a role model, offering peer assistance and direction to students.

Each Residence Hall has a RA duty phone number assigned to it in the event that an emergency situation arises (see Frequently Used Phone Numbers). The R.A. on duty can be reached between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., seven days a week, during the academic year.

Accessing the Residence Halls

After 9:00 p.m., when the building is locked, access is available only through the front door via an electronic access system.  All student rooms have combination locks on the doors so that there are no hassles of forgetting or losing your keys when you live in residence halls.

Free Cable Access

Each student room is equipped with cable hookup. Anyone with a cable television has free access to the 94 channels offered by the Housing & Residence Life. Featured are channels such as CNN, Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC, 7 HBOs, MTV, comedy Central and PSTV, the student operated campus station.

Free On-Campus Phone Service & 400 Minutes/Month of Domestic Long Distance Service

Each student room on campus is equipped with a telephone jack and unlimited free access to all local and on-campus telephone numbers and the emergency 911 service. All resident students are assigned a personal billing number (PBN) by the Telecommunications Office. This number allows students to make off-campus and long distance calls from any campus telephone and records the number of minutes used.  You will receive a bill if you go over 400 minutes each month at your residence hall mailbox.

Free High Speed Internet Access

All student rooms are equipped with data ports that provide access to the campus computer (VAX) and the Internet without the use of a modem.
