Orientation Information for Parents and Family of Transfer Students

The Family Program

Your family is welcome and encouraged to join you for your Orientation Session. We can guarantee that we will keep them busy, informed, and entertained with a program we have designed just for them! In participating in the Family Program, your family members will:

  • Develop a comfort level with SUNY Plattsburgh.
  • Learn about the topics and concerns that family members have told us are most important to them.
  • Learn how to be a valuable and supportive resource for you as you progress as a student at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Family members attending the family program will be required to check in at Whiteface Hall between 3-5 p.m.

Family members are resonsible for making their own hotel arrangements. Students will be staying on campus.

Family Orientation Schedule 2017

Day 1

Date Time
3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Check- In. Location: Whiteface Hall.
You will receive your itinerary and information packet.
5:30- 6:30 p.m Welcome to Cardinal Country.
Join Bryan Hartman, Vice President for Student Affairs, for a welcome to SUNY Plattsburgh and Family Orientation followed by some tips from faculty and staff members about how your student can be successful inside and outside the classroom.


Day 2

Date Time
7:45 8:30 a.m. Breakfast at the Sundowner.
For those families interested in eating breakfast on campus, you may purchase meals at the Sundowner or Griddles (located in the Angell College Center).
8:30 – 9:00 a.m. Your Guide to Meal Plans, Textbooks, Cardinal Cash and More.
College Auxiliary Services staff will explain what you need to know about their services.
9:00 – 9:30 a.m. Financial Aid and Payment Information.
Financial Aid staff will guide you through what you need to know about billing, loans, scholarships and more.
9:45 – 11:45 p.m. Student Services Panel.
Join Student Affairs staff members as they share information about campus services available to your student including housing and residence life, campus safety and career development.
