Why is SUNY Plattsburgh changing to Cardinal Cloud?

A Suite of Communication Tools for Students, Faculty, and Alumni

After conducting extensive research and considering a full range of options, the college made the decision to enhance campus email services by using a "hosted" solution as a replacement for its campus-based email service. The new Cardinal Cloud service is hosted by Google Apps for Education. It is a suite of communication tools, including a calendar and a file storage option.

Cardinal Cloud Benefits

Expanded storage for email and files - We currently offer 250MB total for email and files; that will increase to 30GB per user. There is currently a high demand for expanded email and shared file space.

Collaboration tools - Cardinal Cloud Email provides a state-of-the-art webmail interface, personal and shared group calendars, cloud file storage, mobile device support and integration, personal and faculty webpage space, and Google Talk for additional communication options for students/staff and groups.

A solution that gives users what they want - Many individuals forward their mail off campus, particularly to Gmail. Therefore, user familiarity with the product is already high.

Free email accounts for graduates - Moving to Google will allow us to provide SUNY Plattsburgh grads with perpetual accounts at no cost.
