Instructional Technology Faculty Mentoring Program
In 2007, SUNY Plattsburgh's Teaching, Learning, and Technology Advisory Group (TLTAG) proposed an IT Faculty Mentoring program that would provide readily accessible guidance on teaching with technology. The proposed program supplements Instructional Technology (IT) workshops and Center for Teaching Effectiveness activities on an as-needed basis by designating a mentor in each building who will be available for faculty consultations on matters concerning teaching and technology. This program is based on the understanding that instructional technology training often takes place during informal contact between colleagues. The mentoring program is intended to harness that opportunity and develop it to better meet the IT needs of our faculty and to to increase the faculty's appropriate application of technology for pedagogical and/or administrative purposes.
The IT Faculty Mentors will be engaged in a variety of activities to initiate and/or increase faculty involvement with instructional technologies. These activities will include
- the promotion of faculty participation in workshops sponsored by Instructional Technology and the Center for Teaching Excellence;
- the introduction of applications of teaching with technology to faculty via departmental presentations; and
- the maintenance of office hours dedicated specifically for mentoring, allowing occasional flex hours for assisting faculty with unpredicted problems. "Office hours" will not necessarily need to take place in the mentor's office. Indeed, they may take place in the office of a colleague who needs help or assistance.
Details on the innaugural group of mentors, the scope of their mentoring activities, and their contact information are listed below: find your mentor and say hello!
