Sponsoring an Internship
Sponsoring an intern is a way for your organization to acknowledge the importance of mentoring today’s students and demonstrate your commitment to the success of tomorrow’s leaders. It allows you to observe and evaluate potential employees and to reduce recruiting and training costs.
Here are a few things you need to know about our internship program:
- In order to apply for an internship, students must have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA and be either a junior or senior in the School of Business & Economics. All candidates are pre-screened by the Office of Internships & Career Opportunities.
- In order to insure a productive internship, it is critical that learning goals be clear. You and the student must develop a list of objectives. What will the student learn during the internship and how will the student learn it? Goals must be specific and detailed. Expectations about work hours and duties should be discussed prior to the start of the internship.
- In order to earn academic credit for an internship, a student must work a minimum number of hours.
A site supervisor should communicate with his/her intern on a regular basis to point out strengths and weaknesses. This ongoing evaluation is a necessary part of the learning process and gives the intern an opportunity to correct problems well before the grading period ends.
Midway through the semester, and then again at the end of the semester, you will receive an Intern Performance Evaluation form. You will be asked to complete the form, add your candid comments and return it promptly. The intern’s grade will be based, in large part, on your input.

When you are ready to list an internship position with the SBE, please complete and submit our Internship Description Form.
