Edward Smith

Adjunct Lecturer of Criminal Justice

Edward Smith has been a police officer at the Plattsburgh Police Department since 1997. He has been a detective there since 2004. He currently teaches Organized Crime and Criminal Investigation.  He has previously taught Police and Society, Sociology of Law, and Criminology and the Criminal Justice System.  Prior to teaching at SUNY Plattsburgh, he taught at Clinton Community College. He is a NYS DCJS Master Instructor and has taught at regional police academies since 2000.  He also holds specialized instructor certification for DWI  Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, RADAR/LIDAR, Ethical Awareness, Breath Analysis Operator, and Mental Health. He is also a crisis negotiator and currently holds the rank of Detective.  After being assigned to the Crime Scene Unit from 2004 to 2016, he is currently assigned to the Major Crimes Unit. 

In his spare time he enjoys reading, kayaking, and spending time with his family.
