Char received her Ph.D. in 1979 from the University of Chicago and spent the next two years as an Assistant Professor at St. Lawrence University. She accepted a position at the University of Vermont (U.V.M.) in 1981 where she is now a full professor. She teaches courses in sedimentology and stratigraphy, Earth history, and sedimentary facies modeling. In 1991 Char won the University's George V. Kidder Outstanding Faculty Award, one of U.V.M.'s highest distinctions. She became the Director of the U.V.M. Living/Learning Center in 1993. As a consequence of this affiliation she has begun research into interdisciplinary studies and the teaching of science.

After graduating from SUNY Plattsburgh, Michael received an M.S. in Hydrogeology at Washington State University. He currently works in Portland, Oregon as an environmental consultant. The majority of his projects involve the implementation of site investigations and remedial measures at various types of hazardous waste and petroleum contaminated sites. Michael attributes his educational and professional successes to the inspiration and guidance he received from Dr. Mary Roden-Tice and Dr. David Franzi
Jackie (Rotelli) Young (Class of 1996)

Jackie has been working with Groundwater and Environmental Services, Inc. since September, 1999, specializing in petroleum contamination remediation. One of her current projects involves the site work for the expansion of Carousel Mall in Syracuse. She is now the GES, Inc. CAD operator as well.
Jackie and Eric Young (SUNY Plattsburgh Environmental Science '96) married on July 1st, 2000.

Eric is investigating the paleohydrology in western Belize at the time of the mass Mayan population decline using stable isotope data and Uranium-series dates from cave speleothems. He spent last summer in Belize and hopes to graduate in May, 2000. Eric reports that he has a new job with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in Tallahassee. He is working in the groundwater section, modeling groundwater flow for the SWAP and well-head protection programs.
