Practice that makes perfect.

If helping others is your dream, you’ll want a college that equips you to be a health and human services professional from day one, working in “real world” facilities with faculty who have worked—and excelled in the field.

The best way to prepare for a career in service is to do the service, and, at SUNY Plattsburgh, every program incorporates extensive time for skills training through practice.

The Damianos Nursing Skills Laboratory features high-tech equipment like bedside computers for electronic medical records and SimMan, a high-fidelity simulator. The new Nutrition Food Lab is equipped with a state-of-the-art food preparation area, dining room, and computer lab. The Speech and Hearing Center serves as a fully functioning clinic for individuals with speech, language, and hearing disorders. And off campus, dozens of organizations host interns and field placements — from CVPH Medical Center to early intervention and social service agencies.

Here, you’ll gain the skills to succeed. More than nine in 10 of our students pass their professional exams. They take leadership roles in medical centers, economic opportunity programs, and schools, here and abroad. Or they pursue graduate work in leading schools of social work like Columbia and Washington University of St. Louis.

Expeditionary studies majors Garret Cooper and Matt Smith’s 750-mile canoe paddle along the Srepok and Mekong rivers in Vietnam and Cambodia has become more than their required senior expedition.
