Lisa Munn Wells, M.S., RN
Associate Professor of Nursing
After graduating with a diploma in nursing, Lisa’s specialty and love was pediatric nursing. She worked at the University of Columbia Medical Center in Missouri for several years in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Eventually she worked as the head nursing in the neighboring hospital in pediatrics. Eventually, she moved back east to Vermont and work in a small rural community hospital. There the experience grew into medical surgical nursing, discharge planner, and home health nursing.
A move back to Plattsburgh in 1992 allowed Lisa to continue her education at SUNY Plattsburgh obtaining a bachelor’s degree. The program prepared her to continue her education in graduate school. It was wonderful being a student again after many years of nursing. Unlike today, the RN students were integrated with the “basic” students and that was kind of fun and a good experience because the students would ask many questions regarding what nursing was truly like in the clinical settings. It was nice to give them a little insight.
During graduate studies, Lisa did her preceptorship/clinical in teaching at SUNY Plattsburgh. As a new faculty member, she was well mentored into the teacher she is today.
After teaching medical-surgical nursing for several years, an opportunity arrived to allow her to teach obstetrical nursing. With this new endeavor, she worked at the local hospital per diem, in maternal-infant nursing to keep up with clinical practice.
It is the belief that the students at SUNY Plattsburgh receive an excellent education and the faculty helps the students as much as possible to succeed and grow into excellent registered nurses. The nursing curriculum is a difficult one, but it prepares you well for a career that may lead you to many options in the nursing field and advanced studies. It requires a lot of work and commitment, but the graduates from this program are very well thought of.
