Global Education Office Staff - Evan Bowker

International Admissions Assistant

Photo of Evan BowkerMy goal as an international admissions assistant is to make our campus as diverse as possible. Having a university filled with international students means you have another channel through which to learn about the world outside of the one you already know. I think a diverse campus, where differences of opinions, culture and history meet and are exchanged is the basis for any real learning experience.

Academic Credentials: B.A. in Public Relations from SUNY Plattsburgh

Brief Biography:  I was born and raised in Oneonta, NY, which in my opinion is Plattsburgh’s identical twin. I attended SUNY Farmingdale for a year, then transferred to SUNY Plattsburgh where I would experience two study abroad adventures, graduate, and then work.

Places I have visited: I helped build a school in Jamaica during a mission trip in high school. I studied abroad in both Ningbo, China and Quito, Ecuador. I visit Montreal (Canada) all the time thanks to our awesome location. And I will be adding so many more to this list as I start my travel recruitment trips for SUNY Plattsburgh.

Favorite Experience as GEO Staff Member: Working with experienced and professional coworkers. I feel so lucky to have learned and to continue learning from the best in the industry. There’s a reason why SUNY Plattsburgh is so successful with international students, and I attribute that to this amazing GEO staff.

Best advice for prospective international students:  Embrace Plattsburgh. The first chance you get, go camping or hiking in the mountains of the Adirondacks. I guarantee you’ll be hooked on it after the first time, and you’ll want to experience all that the area has to offer (which is a lot.)
