Hi! My name is Jessica Spurdis and I am an admissions advisor at SUNY Plattsburgh. I meet with prospective students, review freshman applications and recruit primarily in the Capital District and North Country regions of New York.
Hometown: Coxsackie, NY
Professional/Personal Biography: I graduated from SUNY Oneonta in December 2015 with a B.S. in Communication Studies and a minor in Business Communications. Throughout my time there I was very involved on campus holding leadership positions in some clubs/organizations and was a campus tour guide. While attending college, I was able to obtain internships with the New York State Department of Health and the Walt Disney World Company.
Most memorable college experience: My last semester of college was spent participating in the Disney College Program. It was the best experience of my life thus far and was able to build relationships with so many different people from all of the US and some parts of the world. The program took everything I had learned throughout my three years of college and provided me with the perfect hands on experience to excel at all of my strengths and improve on my weaknesses. I enjoyed it so much that I stayed down there for almost a year!
Favorite SUNY Plattsburgh activity: Walking throughout campus and seeing so much student interaction and involvement. You can eat lunch on a bench and see a group of people slacklining, having a ukulele jam session, and many different organizations raising money for charity. It’s quite remarkable!
Best advice you received regarding college or would give someone entering college: Take the time to build relationships with your Academic Advisor and Professors. They are so passionate about what they do and love interacting with their students. Participate in class and visit them during their office hours because they are a phenomenal resource to use not only during that specific semester, but throughout college and even post-graduation.
