Frontier Saxophone Quartet to Give Concert at SUNY Plattsburgh

(Oct. 11, 2013) — SUNY Plattsburgh's Department of Music will present a faculty recital featuring Daniel Gordon with the Frontier Saxophone Quartet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, in Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

The quartet consists of Gary Scavone (soprano), Todd Pray (alto), Linda Sullivan (tenor) and Gordon, (baritone). Scavone teaches music technology at McGill University in Montreal; Pray is a music instructor for Peru Central Schools and director of the Adirondack Youth Orchestra; Sullivan is director of the Plattsburgh High School Band and president of the Clinton County Music Educators’ Association. Meanwhile, Gordon is a professor and the chair of the SUNY Plattsburgh's Department of Music.

The program includes works by two Vermont composers, David Gunn and Dennis Báthory-Kitsz, both of whom will be in attendance to offer introductory remarks. Báthory-Kitsz composed his work, “Evil Pony,” for the Frontier Quartet, and this performance will be the world premiere.

Other works on the program are Ferenc Farkas’ “Old Hungarian Dances,” Everett Gates’ “Declamation and Dance,” Jack Marshall’s “Goldrush Suite” and the “Story” movement from John Cage’s “Living Room Music.”
