Second Lecture in Cultural Series to Look at Champlain's Early Immigrants

04:49pm EST, 19 Feb 2014

CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. (Feb. 19, 2014) — A local archaeologist will be the next guest speaker in the Village of Champlain’s cultural series.

Andrew Black — an adjunct lecturer at SUNY Plattsburgh and the owner and president of the historic preservation and archaeology consulting firm Black Drake Consulting — will discuss “Life Along the Great Chazy: Early Immigrants to Champlain,” 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 27, at the Samuel de Champlain History Center, 202 Elm St., Champlain.

Black, who specializes in historic archaeology and zooarchaeology, the study of animal remains, will be joined by recent SUNY Plattsburgh graduate Marne Timon. Timon majored in anthropology, minored in archaeology and is interested in studying the ceramic artifacts excavated from the Coopersville site.

The lecture is one in a series of free cultural events sponsored by the Village of Champlain and focusing on history, music, literature, art and dance.
