Leonard Earns SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (May 5, 2017) — SUNY Plattsburgh senior Camille Leonard, a four-year goalie for the college's NCAA championship women's hockey team, has been named a recipient of this year's State University of New York Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award.
The award, announced by Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher May 4, recognizes outstanding academic excellence and athletic achievement.
She joins Bridget Balisy '16, Chelsea VanGlahn '14, Teal Gove '13, Kara Buehler '11, Danielle Roberts '10 and Bree Doyle '07 as Cardinal women's ice hockey players to have received the award.
This year's contingent of winners consists of 77 student-athletes – both female and male – across all levels of collegiate athletics within the SUNY system. The State University of New York Athletic Conference had 18 student-athletes represented, with Leonard being one of 10 females honored. Leonard, of Oakville, Ontario, capped her collegiate playing career as one of the most decorated goalies in Division III women's ice hockey history. A four-time national champion, Leonard holds the Division III women's ice hockey career records in wins (75) and save percentage (.949), while sitting second in shutouts (30). As a senior, she led the nation in wins (25), winning percentage (.962) and goals-against average (1.11), was tied for fourth in shutouts (7) and was 10th in save percentage (.945). Leonard allowed one goal or fewer in 19 of 26 appearances this past season. She blanked four nationally ranked opponents and registered 11 20-save performances.
Leonard boasts 16 career conference and national yearly awards, including two All-America selections and three NCAA Championship All-Tournament selections. Leonard was the 2016 ECAC Women's West co-Goalie of the Year while earning all-conference honors on two other occasions. She also qualified three times for the ECAC Women's West Academic All-Conference squad, and was among those featured in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd" last month.
At SUNY Plattsburgh's annual Senior Recognition and Awards Ceremony, she was the female co-winner of the Dr. Richard D. Semmler '68 Award, which is given to the senior athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average through the fall semester of their senior year, while also earning the Senior Achievement Award for academic and athletic success.
An upcoming graduate at next weekend's commencement, Leonard carries a 3.86 cumulative GPA as a social work major.
