SUNY Adirondack Students Benefit from New Dual Agreement with SUNY Plattsburgh Queensbury

SUNY Plattsburgh Queensbury entered into a dual admissions agreement Monday with SUNY Adirondack that allows students at Adirondack to be accepted into related Plattsburgh bachelor’s degree programs there.

The agreement simplifies the transfer process for students earning their associate’s degree to move on to the four-year degree at SUNY Plattsburgh Queensbury.

“This agreement represents a significant step forward in our commitment to provide accessible and seamless educational pathways for students in the counties of Warren, Washington, and Saratoga,” said SUNY Plattsburgh President Alexander Enyedi at Monday’s signing ceremony. “Under this new agreement, a single admission application will instantly unlock access to two distinguished institutions - SUNY ADK and SUNY Plattsburgh at Queensbury.  Students will spend two years at each, culminating in the attainment of a four-year degree close to home.”

Students Can Secure Acceptance

“SUNY Adirondack students now have an opportunity to secure acceptance into SUNY Plattsburgh while getting all the benefits of attending our community college for an associate degree, the credits of which transfer directly,” said Dr. Kristine Duffy, SUNY Adirondack president.

The addition was lauded by Johanna Duncan-Poitier, SUNY senior vice chancellor for Community Colleges and the Education Pipeline, who spoke at the event Monday.

“This partnership makes earning a bachelor’s degree right here on our Queensbury campus easier than ever,” said Kristine D. Duffy, Ed.D., president of SUNY Adirondack.

When applying to SUNY Adirondack, students are asked to select a degree program. Those who select liberal arts humanities and social sciences with a concentration in psychology will be asked if they would also like to apply to a bachelor’s degree program in psychology at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Many Options

Other options are the community college’s criminal justice/police science program, which would seamlessly transfer to SUNY Plattsburgh’s criminal justice program, liberal arts humanities and social sciences to Plattsburgh’s human development and family relations major, and computer science or information technology/cybersecurity to Plattsburgh’s computer security degree.

“This agreement is a strategic collaboration that streamlines the transfer process for students, ensuring they can progress from an AA degree program at Adirondack to complete a baccalaureate  degree program at SUNY Plattsburgh at Queensbury,” Enyedi said. “However, this pathway isn't without its requirements. Students must maintain a minimum GPA, complete prerequisite coursework and fulfill credit obligations to successfully transfer between institutions.”

This agreement waives the admission deposit, admission fee, and transcript fees and offers confirmation of credit transferability, assuring students that the hard-earned credits they accumulate at SUNY Adirondack will seamlessly transition/transfer to SUNY Plattsburgh at Queensbury.

“This, coupled with guaranteed acceptance if all criteria are met, provides students with less stress and peace of mind as they navigate their academic journey,” Enyedi said.

Dismantling Barriers

Still, the benefits extend beyond mere administrative convenience, he said.

“Through our collaborative efforts, we are not just removing barriers; we are dismantling them entirely.

“This agreement opens doors for students to complete a four-year degree without having to leave their local community, thereby enhancing access to a 4-year degree,” Enyedi said.

SUNY Plattsburgh has had a presence in Warren County for more than 50 years, starting at Queensbury High School and moving to SUNY Adirondack in the 1990s. In 2005, the university opened an extension center at SUNY Adirondack and, in 2008, moved into J. Buckley Bryan Regional Higher Education Center, making it the first SUNY to establish a branch campus at a community college.
