Newly Renovated Yokum Communications Hall Unveiled with Ribbon Cutting Oct. 17
03:12pm EDT, 17 Sep 2015
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2015) — The new and improved Yokum Communications Hall will be unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday, Oct. 17 during the college’s Homecoming festivities.
Renovations to the communications hall began in the summer of 2014 and included upgrading audio, multimedia and the Albert R. Montanaro Jr. Television Studio facilities from analog to digital technology. The studios were named for the late Albert Montanaro Jr., a long-time communications department faculty member and mentor.
The upgrades included renovations to the two television studios to equip them with high definition cameras; control rooms with new switching gear to allow for digital work flow; expansion to 12 private editing suites and one automated dialog recording suite; a new student lounge called the “Think Tank” with casual seating where students can work and interact; a dedicated audio-visual classroom with surround processing and more.
The ceremony will include a welcome message from Dr. Andrew Buckser, dean of arts and sciences, a short video presentation of the new facilities, a studio tour, an open mic portion for alumni to speak about their experiences in the department and a reception.
Homecoming 2015 will be Friday, Oct. 16 and Saturday, Oct. 17, with activities that include a Friday night bonfire, Cardinal Kids in the Arts, soccer games, a Monopole mixer, alumni games, ice skating with Burghy, and the Athletic Hall of Fame induction.
