Business Plan Competition Returns to SUNY Plattsburgh
02:00pm EDT, 17 Mar 2017
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (March 17, 2017)— SUNY Plattsburgh will host the Clinton County Business Plan Competition Friday, March 31, at Au Sable Hall, the college’s business and computer science building.
According to Dr. Richard Gottschall, assistant professor of marketing and entrepreneurship, undergraduate and graduate students from any accredited North Country college or university are eligible for the competition, which requires students to submit business plans to investors and business people attending the event.
Students may compete in one of six categories: biotechnology and health care; energy and sustainability; information technology and software; nanotechnology and advanced technology; products and services; and social entrepreneurship and nonprofit. Students are limited to a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation with five minutes for follow-up questions from the judges.
“Competing in a business plan competition helps student entrepreneurs crystallize their business concepts, improve their pitching skills and gain confidence interacting with potential investors,” said Dr. Nancy Church, distinguished service professor emeritus of marketing and entrepreneurship and president and executive director of Sigma Nu Tao, the National Entrepreneurship Society.
“Supporting entrepreneurial activity in its earlies phases is an important aspect of the college’s role in the regional economy,” Gottschall said.
The competition is sponsored for the second year in a row by Symquest Inc., and The Development Corp. Community members with entrepreneurial or commercial lending experience, venture capitalists, and angel investors engage with the students as competition judges and offer advice on the further development of the plans.
Students can register for the competition online at gottscrl.edublogs.org by March 27. For information, contact Gottschall at 518-564-3159 or email@example.com.
