PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Nov. 20, 2017) — The Council of International Schools has honored Jackie Vogl, associate vice president for global education and director, Global Education Office, with its T. Michael Maybury Award.
The award, named in honor of the former CIS executive director, was presented at the CIS Forum on International Admission and Guidance Nov. 15-16 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The citation said in part that Maybury “devoted a lifetime of service to the promotion of international education and global understanding.”
It went on to hint at its recipient.
“With this award, we honor a member of the CIS higher education community whose work continues Mike’s legacy and who has also made significant contributions to international education. This year’s winner is an unfailing advocate for international students and holds a strong belief in the value of international dialog and its power in creating pathways for understanding, perspective and action.
“In addition to her staunch support of international students, this person is regarded as a mentor to many. She leads by power of example and demonstrates openness and collegiality with her peers.
“This person is a fearless traveler who had led many others on organized recruitment tours and small group travels. Even as a seasoned traveler, she continues to find joy in traveling the world and connecting with prospective students and alumni from her university.”
While taken by surprise, Vogl said one doesn’t receive this kind of award in a vacuum.
“It reflects an institutional decision 20 years ago to enroll, support and graduate students from around the world,” she said. “I’ve just been the vehicle for accomplishing that end, as have the members of my staff. There is always a host of people not given an award who deserve it as much if not more so than the awardee. I am honored and humbled, but I am grateful for the work my staff does on behalf of the Global Education program.”
"We are so pleased to see Jackie honored with this prestigious award from her peers in international student recruitment," said SUNY Plattsburgh President John Ettling. "She brings dedication, expertise and a deep commitment to each student who comes to this college. We are a better college because of the work she had done and continues to do."
The Council of International Schools is a global organization that helps connect students and teachers to member international schools worldwide to provide international educational opportunities.
Membership includes 733 schools and 592 colleges and universities representing 112 countries. Vogl is a member of its board of trustees.
