Alumni in the Classroom Experience Features Music Alumna

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Nov. 30, 2017) — The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music will host music alumna Maegan Pollonais for a three-day Alumni in the Classroom Experience event Thursday, Dec. 7 to Saturday, Dec. 9.
Pollonais, a member of the Class of 2012, will present “The Unapologetic Other,” a discussion on the importance of diversity in an American society, particularly in higher education and the performing arts, Thursday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. in the Alumni Conference Room, Angell College Center. Light refreshments will be served.
On Friday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m., Pollonais will be in the Myers Lobby Gallery for a meet-and-greet opportunity. From 3 to 3:50 p.m., Pollonais will participate in the voice program’s final voice studio class in Room 324, Myers Fine Arts Building, where undergraduate vocal students present informally to the combined voice studios of the Department of Music.
Pollonais’ visit concludes Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. when she appears as a soloist in Champlain Valley Voices’ annual performance of Handel’s “Messiah” in E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall. Ticket information for the “Messiah” concert can be found at www.champlainvalleyvoices.org.
Pollonais, a Caribbean mezzo-soprano, was one of 32 to be accepted into the renowned OperaWorks’ Emerging Young Artist Program in Los Angeles, Calif. She was the first-place winner of the Classical Music Development Foundation of Trinidad and Tobago’s Voice Competition and of the Ball State University 10th Annual Voice Competition. She is currently pursuing her doctorate at Ball State University with a concentration in educational psychology.
All three events of the Alumni in the Classroom Experience are free and open to the public and are sponsored by the SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music and the Student Association through the Campus Arts Council. Alumni in the Classroom Experience is supported by the Plattsburgh Alumni Association and the Plattsburgh College Foundation.
